Baking your own bread

I always wondered about how my own bread would taste like if I made some. Well today, I decided to bake some. The ingredients for basic bread is very simple. All you need are:
  • Flour - not the self-raising type. Up to you whether you want to use plain or wholemeal.
  • Yeast - you can buy them in sachets or in packs.
  • Water
  • Salt
With the exception of the yeast, almost every household has the other 3 ingredients. Here's how I mixed mine.

1 1/2 cups of warm water mixed to 1/4 tablespoon of salt, 1 sachet of yeast which is equal to a tablespoon and 3 cups of flour. You mix the salt and the yeast first and then pour in the flour. Mix everything with a wooden spoon. Do not use a metal spoon as the dough will react badly with the metal. Once everything has been mixed, let the dough rise. It should be done in about 15 minutes or so. You can refrigerate the dough first if you wish to let it attain a bit more flavour.

Once you're ready, get some flour and powder your hands with it. Cut off some dough using a bread knife and pour some flour all over the dough to prevent it from being sticky. Pre-heat your oven to 220C and put your dough in. Let it bake for about 25 minutes or until the bread is brown. Put it on a wire rack after you take it out for it to cool.

measure your ingredients.

put your salt in the warm water.

pour in the yeast.

pour in your flour. you can see that the yeast has already reacted with the warm water.
using a wooden spoon, mix your ingredients.
make sure it is all mixed thoroughly.

put the dough in a container and cover it loosely.

the dough would have risen enough in 15 to 20 minutes.

dust your hands with flour.

grabs some dough and cut some using the bread knife.

dust the dough with the flour.
put your dough on a baking tray.
pre-heat your oven. your baking temperature should be 220C.
and here's the result - freshly-baked yummy bread!

My apologies for the way the bread looks. It is my first time to bake bread after all. It was still very delicious though!

Enjoy!
