Tree kangaroos

Kangaroos are marsupials, a sub-classification of mammals where their young live in pouches after birth. The mammary glands of marsupials are also hidden away in these pouches so it is hard to determine the sex of an animal from afar. Australia is known for their kangaroos who are usually depicted as furry lovable animals who just like to hop around. Well, Papua New Guinea has some kangaroos too.

Papua New Guinea has over 10 varities of tree kangaroos. These creatures are essentially tree-dwelling kangaroos. They are equipped with claws that make it easy for them to climb trees. They are vegetarians and come in a variety of colours and shapes. These are gentle creatures and have been hunted for their fur, their meat and for being exported as exotic pets. They are now endangered and if you do come across them, please leave them in their natural habitat.

this one i believe is from the morobe region
this cute guy was so sleepy, he was barely hanging on to his cage.

This is a wallaby and not a kangaroo. They are smaller than a kangaroo but they look almost alike with the exception of the size.

I hope you enjoyed learning that there are more than one kind of kangaroo out there. Ciao!
